6 Ways For Girls To Join Indian Navy: Women Entries 2017

The women were inducted only in the Armed Forces Medical Corps till the year 1992. From July 1992, the Navy started inducting women as Short Service Commissioned Officers in select branches of the Navy. Presently the women are inducted into the following 6 branches of the Navy as Officers through women entries: ATC, Observer, Law, Logistics, Education and Naval Architecture.
Out of these, the government has also given approval for Permanent Commission (PC) for women in Education, Law and Naval Architecture branch on completion of SSC tenure depending merit and vacancy.

Women can join any of the 6 branches of the Navy as follows:

1. Naval Architecture: Naval architecture is an engineering discipline dealing with the engineering design process, shipbuilding, maintenance, and operation of marine vessels and structures. One can apply for it through UES or as per the latest notification.

• Eligibility: An engineering graduate aged between 19½ – 25 is eligible to apply.
• Educational Qualification: The candidates must possess at least 60% marks in BE/B. Tech Degree in any one of the following stream: Mechanical, Civil, Aeronautical, Metallurgy and Naval Architecture

2. Observer: Indian Navy needs observers who act as airborne coordinators of maritime warfare. Observer officer operates various state of the art equipment including sonics, radars, sonars and communication equipment. As an airborne technician, you will be flying on board, Naval aircraft of the Indian Navy.

• Eligibility: An engineering graduate aged between 19 – 24 is eligible to apply.
• Educational Qualification: BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline with Physics & Maths in 12th standard.

3. Education:

• Eligibility: Candidate aged between 21 – 25 is eligible to apply with the following educational qualifications.
• Educational Qualification:
  • BE/B.Tech degree in any discipline with Physics & Maths in 12th standard.
  • A second-class Master’s degree from a recognised university in Physics or Mathematics. Candidates possessing Master’s degree in physics should have studied Mathematics at least at the subsidiary level at the degree standard and those possessing master’s degree in Mathematics should have studied Physics at least at the subsidiary level at degree standard.
  • A second-class Master’s degree from a recognised university in Chemistry or English. Candidates possessing Master’s degree in chemistry should have studies Physics at least at the subsidiary level at the degree standard and those possessing Master’s degree in English should have studied Physics or Mathematics up to the intermediate or equivalent standard.
  • An engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical or engineering in Computer Science/Technology.
  • A second-class Master’s degree from a recognised university in computer application or computer science. Candidate should have studied either Physics or Mathematics at their graduation level.
  • A post-graduate degree from a recognised university in Humanities (Economics/History/ Political Science).

4. Logistics /Works:

• Eligibility: Candidates aged between 19½-25 with any of the following educational qualification.
• Educational Qualification:

BE/B Tech in any discipline with 1st class

MBA with 1st class

B Sc/B Com/B Sc(IT) with 1st class and PG Diploma in Finance/Logistics/Supply Chain Mgt/Material Mgt

5. Law:

• Eligibility: Candidates aged between 22-27 are eligible to apply.

6. ATC:

Join Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMC) As Officer: Jan 2017 Notification

REGISTRATION FOR ONLINE APPLICATION on www.amcsscentry.gov.in WILL OPEN ON 21 JAN 2017 AND WILL CLOSE ON 16 FEB 2017

Applications are invited from Indian citizens both male and female, who have passed their final MBBS examination in the first or second attempt and completed the internship, for grant of Short Service Commission in the Armed Forces Medical Services.
Applicants who have taken more than two chances in final MBBS (Part I & II) Examination are ineligible and hence need not apply for the same.

Eligibility:

1. The applicant must possess medical qualification included in First/Second Schedule or Part-II of the Third Schedule of IMC Act 1956.
2. The applicant must have permanent registration from any State Medical Council/MCI.
3. Post graduate degree/diploma holders recognised by State Medical Council/MCI/NBE can also apply.
4. Only those candidates who have completed/completing their internship on or before 16 Feb 2017 can apply.
5. The candidate must not have attained 45 years of age as on 31 Dec 2018.

The method of Selection:

Eligible candidates will be called for interview by a Board of Officers to assess their suitability and merit for grant of Short Service Commission in the Armed Forces Medical Services.
 The candidates who qualify in the interview will have to undergo Special Medical Examination Board (SMB). The candidates appearing for interview for the first-time will be paid to and fro sleeper-class railway/bus fare.
Every candidate on being qualified in interview will have to attend the Special Medical Board (SMB) constituted by DGAFMS for examining his or her medical fitness as per laid down standards. The proceedings will remain confidential and will not be divulged to anyone. However, candidates declared unfit by the Special Medical Board (SMB) will be intimated by the President of the Special Medical Board the procedure for requesting for Appeal Medical Board (AMB).
Unfit candidates should report for AMB within a maximum period of 42 (forty-two) days. Candidates are advised in their own interest to appear for AMB well in time and should not wait for the last date given by the SMB.
A merit list is prepared purely on the basis of marks obtained by the candidates in the interview. Candidates with NCC Certificate will be given due weightage. From the prepared Merit list, the candidates declared Medically FIT shall be issued joining instruction for commissioning as SSC Officers subject to availability of vacancies.

How to Prepare

STARTING WITH THE PREPARATION:

I, You, He, She, everybody loves to cherish dreams coming true, whenever we appear for Civil Services Examination – but only few stands with the time; vanishing and often breaking the hearts of thousands of others. How is this? Were we really prepared when we took the exam? Were we mentally tough enough to handle the pressure? Whether all the resources needed to crack the exam were in our hands? Or were we not competent enough, either lacking in knowledge, approach or any other area, which gave us a tag of ‘Civil Services Aspirants’ all through our life?
Popularly called the IAS Exam, the Civil Service Exams conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, is to select officers suitable to occupy the highest posts in bureaucracy. As we had seen in our school days in civics/social sciences that while the elected representatives of the people enact legislations, it is the Executive who implement them. 

• The job of legislation is mainly over with the passing of the Act in both the Houses of the Parliament. The Executive takes it over from there. Most of the key posts in the executive branch of the Government are held by those who clear this prestigious Exam. You might also be representing our country in the global discussions on environment, trade, human development etc.

• Do not merely go by the advertisements, nor the claims made in magazines or the interviews supposedly given by the toppers. 
• Meet the successful candidates and the seniors who have taken coaching from that institute.
• Do not go by the advice of only one person. It is better to contact as many as possible and get a general opinion.
• Meet the teacher personally, ask for their programme details, results, etc, and assess yourself if it is worth joining there. If you are working somewhere or economically under privileged, and therefore, cannot go for coaching, please do not get discouraged. There are many people who cleared the exam without coaching. You can devise ways of getting the required information about the exam. But you should always be aware that you would have to work harder than others to clear the exam. So be prepared for that, and believe that hard work will always be paid back in the end.
• No coaching institute can provide you better guidance in all subjects but no doubt there are some experts. Join the institute or teacher as per your requirement.
• Free coaching for SCs, STs and Minorities for IAS-Free Coaching for IAS and other competitive exams are provided to reserved, minority and needy candidates. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI, apparently sponsors many such coaching facilities. At many places exclusive centers for them have been opened, at others reservations are available, and at a few places concessions are available. You should ask around relevant people to see if you have any such facility near your place of residence. 

            The respect you command, if you are an honest and effective officer, is unmatched by most other careers. The society looks up to you if you are someone who is unbiased, efficient and sensitive. You will be a social leader. You will have immense power and influence to better things around you. And the kind of exposure and leadership opportunities such a career offers you at a very early stage is matched only by a few other jobs. Above all, there are not many careers that would give you such a deep sense of satisfaction at the end of a day’s work. So, are you really ready to take this exam?   

• One has to choose subjects for the mains, for this you have to be very careful.  Public Administration, Historyand geography have been proved to be much scoring, go for subjects you think will help you score well. Prepare the syllabus well and thoroughly. Also while reading the syllabus, make sure the reading material is easily available and have proper guidance.
• You cannot, by any chance pass the IAS exam if you are weak on the current affairs and general knowledge quotient. You have to read newspapers, magazines, listen to news, (DD News, LS& RS TV debates) be updated with the recent happenings and the important events and incidents that have taken place. If you are not sure, take as many quizzes as possible.
• Newspaper reading habit and planned preparation help in a long term. Candidates must have an effective time management for clearing the nationwide competitive examinations such as general and civil services. You must have a plan and ready time management scheme to utilize best of your efforts. 
• Candidates must read at least three newspapers daily and two weekly magazines to update the knowledge. It feeds you with real information. You must better know what not to do than what to do, while writing the examination.

First, you must know what to study, what not to study and how to study. You must polish your writing skills as you have to answer many questions in garnering information. Candidates must refer to study material, text Books for preparation of common papers such as history, geography, economics and political science. I would also emphasis on the importance of clarity because most of the questions in the exam would be opinion-based. You must be able to co-relate to the problems and sympathize with them.

• The most important part is attitude to be confident and hold stand till the last. Interview tests a candidate’s honesty and integrity.

General (but important) instructions about written examination

• The papers in all the subjects will consist of Objective (multiple choice answer) Type questions only.
• SI units will be used in the papers and Candidates should use only International form of Indian numerals (i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.) while answering question papers.
• Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.
• Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not, therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.

Interview

• The Union Public Service Commission will declare a qualified list of candidates (based on the written exam).
• The selected candidates will appear before a Services Selection Board for Intelligence and Personality Test.
• The total maximum marks for the interview will be 200 for OTA and 300 for IMA, Naval and Air Force.
• Candidates for the Air Force wing and Naval Aviation will also undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test.

Two Stage Selection Procedure

• Two stage selection procedure will be based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test.
• All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centres.
• Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage.
• Those candidates who qualify stage II will be required to submit the original Certificates along with one photocopy each of :
  • Original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth
  • Bachelors Degree alongwith mark sheets in support of educational qualification
• For final qualification, candidates should secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in (i) Written examination and (ii) SSB test as fixed by the Commission in their discretion.
• Qualified candidates will then be placed in the final order of merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the Written examination and the Services Selection Board Tests.
• The final selection for admission will be made in order of merit depending on the number of vacancies in each wing.
• The selection will be subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects.
